Whitbread PLC is engaged in the operation of hotels, restaurants and coffee shops. The Company operates in two segments: hotels and restaurants, which is engaged in the provision of services in relation to food and accommodation and Costa, which generates income from the operation of its branded, owned and franchised coffee shops. Its brands include Premier Inn, Beefeater, Table Table, Brewers Fayre, Taybarns and Costa Coffee. Premier Inn is a hotel brand with 578 budget hotels and more than 40,000 rooms across the United Kingdom and Ireland. Premier Inn bedrooms feature en-suite bathroom, television with Freeview, and WiFi Internet access. As of March 4, 2010, the Company had over 42,000 rooms in 588 Premier Inn hotels. As at March 4, 2010, Costa had over 1,000 stores in the United Kingdom and over 400 internationally. It operates in 25 countries.

We were founded by Italian brothers Sergio and Bruno Costa in 1971. With over 1,100 stores in the UK and over 600 in 25 other countries, we’ve enjoyed an amazing journey since we opened our first store in London.

2010 was the year that Costa became the nation’s favourite coffee store.

In a market where purchase has historically been driven by convenience rather than quality, Costa has challenged the way we think, buy and consume coffee.

Led by a focus on continually improving product and service, Costa has employed independent taste tests to demonstrate that those who care about coffee prefer Costa. Now, 35% of the UK’s adult population visit Costa – more than any other Coffee chain. Just 1% of the world’s production of coffee is good enough for us to choose from. Costa commitments

Costa Coffee is the first UK coffee shop chain to commit to sourcingRainforest Alliance Certified Coffee. Our baristas are all coached in the art of hand making coffee at our unique Costa Coffee Academies.

We set up a registered charity in 2006 called the Costa Foundation to give back to the communities in the countries from which we source our coffee beans.
